Islamic University of Technology (IUT), a subsidiary organ of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), originated in 1986 as Islamic Centre for Technical and Vocational Training and Research (ICTVTR). With the upgradation of its academic activities, it was renamed as Islamic Institute of Technology (IIT) in 1994 and further elevated to the status of a University in 2001. It is now a fully residential University, 30 kilometers away from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.

Students numbering more than 8,000 from 35 countries have so far studied and graduated from IUT who are now engaged in various important sectors throughout the world especially in the OIC Countries. Currently, the annual intake of the University is around 900 while the total student population is in the region of 2,650.

The Islamic University of Technology is poised to excel in academic and research arena. Here students and trainees from different Member Countries are pursuing various programmes in an Islamic environment. It is a meeting place of ideas and culture from different Islamic Countries. The students graduating from the University, equipped with necessary technical knowledge and skill and imbued with the spirit and values of Islam would, Insha Allah, be able to contribute immensely to the rapid economic development of the Member States.
